amd ryzen 3000 series 16 core

Less than one month is left for the official release of Ryzen 3000 series CPUs. And new leaks filled with details circulating around the web. This new leak came from  TUM_APISAK who reports that the first Ryzen 3000 series processor with 16 core and 32 threads was spotted online in a benchmark database. Ryzen 3000 series CPUs are based on the Zen 2 processor microarchitecture and 7nm process node.

Although AMD officially gave information about eight core processor but they never mention the 16 core one. Now with this leak, we can say that mainstream AM4 socket is going to support the first 16 core CPU. Till now only TR4 socket supports 16 core CPU in AMD side.

Although TUM_APISAK didn’t reveal the processor’s codename but did confirm that it does not follow the existing nomenclature and, therefore, cannot be unraveled with Marvin’s famous AMD Codename Decoder.

This below table is compiled from various leaks. Keep in mind that the information these leaks provides may not be accurate and the end result after official release can be different than this. So take this as a grain of salts.

Ryzen 9 3850X16 / 32-4.3 / 5.1 GHz135W$499

TUM_APISAK’s leaks are based on an engineering sample(ES). The clock speeds for this part are also mentioned and those are adjusted at 3.3 GHz for Base and 4.2 GHz for Boost. As these are based on an ES chip. So the frequency in the final retail variants can be much higher. The current 16 core offering from the AMD is Threadripper 2050X,  a 180W chip. While the latest Ryzen 3000 series 16 core CPU has a 100W TDP with better clock speed compared to Threadripper’s 2950X 3.5 GHz Base / 4.4 GHz Boost. You can learn more about Ryzen 3000 here.
