Sony finally unveiled the design of their upcoming PlayStation 5 in the ‘The Future of Gaming’ event. Sony has surprised many of its fans by revealing the design of the PlayStation at the end of the stream. Sony showcased two variants of the device, PS5, and the PS5 Digital Edition. Sony has also showcased a plethora of accessories, including the DualSense controller, HD Camera, Media Remote, and Pulse 3D wireless headphones.

Sony has gone a different design for the PlayStation 5. Which many people are liking many people aren’t, its a personal preference so let’s not talk about this. Just like the Xbox Series X, the PS5 can be placed vertically or horizontally underneath a TV or monitor. Sony has created a stand that can place the PlayStation in both orientations. At the top of the PlayStation, there are vents for heat dissipation and USB-A and USB-C ports at the front.

Sony has placed the Optical Drive at the bottom right side from the front. As the Digital Edition doesn’t have the Optical Drive, it is comparatively thinner than the other one with the drive. Removal of the drive also means that the Digital Edition should be lighter too in terms of weight.

There’s a new DualSense charging station for the PS5 controllers, an HD camera, new headphones. As of now, Sony has showcased the PS5 along with all of its accessories in white color. It is not known if there will be another color variant of the device will be made available at the time of launch later this year.

Sony PlayStation 5 will be powered by an eight-core Zen 2 based CPU from AMD and a custom AMD R-DNA based GPU.  The GPU will be able to deliver 10.28 TFLOPs of graphical power with 36 Compute Units at 2.23GHz. The console will come with 16GB of GDDR6 RAM. Sony has created a proprietary SSD for PS5 which will deliver up to 5.5GB/s read and write speed. Sony claims that these new SSDs inside of the PS5 can load 2GB of data in 0.27 seconds.

PS5 will come with support for ray-tracing and will be able to output 8K graphics. It will also be able to deliver 4K graphics at a 120Hz refresh rate. It also comes with a new 3D audio feature which will provide a more realistic and immersive gaming experience.

Sony has not revealed the pricing of the new PlayStation 5. There is also no particular date for the launch. Although Sony has said that PlayStation will be released late this year.
